Happy International Women's Day #BalanceForBetter
It’s a bitter-sweet feeling to write about International Women’s Day. On one hand, we’re extremely proud of our Legend Boats’ culture, and proud of the women that we work with and that represent us. On the other hand, a single day seems a little out of place. Legend women are equal every single day of the year.
If you’ve seen our Legend Boats Sudbury Grand Opening Events Highlights video, you’ll get a sense of how Legend Boats goes above and beyond when it comes to creating a comfortable and enjoyable corporate culture. There was a large investment put into team lounges and common areas, and an ongoing effort to provide staff with time away from their desks to enjoy team building time and activities. It’s an extreme sense of pride that this has resulted in a working environment that is perceived as balanced and equal.
To make sure that this perception is reality, we wanted to get a first-hand account of what it’s like to work for Legend Boats.
When we first planned to ask one of our top anglers – Michelle Matte – what it’s like being a woman in a predominantly male sport and industry, we expected to hear about a few obstacles and struggles she had to overcome. What we didn’t expect was how many life lessons were learned along the way, and passed along to the next generation.
In this video she explains discovering her passion for fishing at a very early age, and how she had to go the extra mile to prove herself as an equal next to her male counterparts. She goes on to explain how her daughter is now a passionate angler and, although there is still progress to be made, she’s in a much stronger position to enjoy fishing and boating as a person, as opposed to a woman.
We thank Michelle and anyone else who grew up boating and fishing for allowing Legend Boats to be a part of her life and her passion.
Yours In Boating,
